Shalonda Mixon made her first court appearance Friday in connection with an incident that unfolded at, and next to, the Anderson Township home belonging to her brother, Bengals running back Joe Mixon.

Last week, Hamilton Co. sheriff’s deputies said a teenager playing a game called ‘Nerf wars’ was hit in the foot by a bullet fired from a gun that was in the hands of Shalonda Mixon’s boyfriend, Lamonte Brewer.

On Thursday, Hamilton Co. Prosecutor Melissa Powers showed an image from a security camera that she said shows Brewer firing the weapon. She said another image shows Shalonda Mixon picking up shell casings.

Powers said Joe Mixon committed no crime.

On Friday morning, Shalonda Mixon was arraigned during a hearing that lasted less than a minute.

“This is case number B2301142-B, Shalonda Marie Mixon,” a court official said. “She’s been indicted on one count of tampering with evidence and one count obstructing justice. Have you received a copy of your indictment?”

“She has,” defense attorney Mike Allen said.

“And how do you plead?” the court worker asked.

“Not guilty,” Allen said.

“OK. Regarding bond?” said Chief Magistrate Anita Berding.

“We agree with the State of a bond of $5,000 at 10 percent,” Allen said.

Berding agreed with that bond amount and someone posted Shalonda Mixon’s bond a little after 4 p.m.

Shalonda Mixon is due back in court at the end of March for another hearing.

The whereabouts of Lamonte Brewer, who faces four felony counts in the case, remain unknown.
